Time card calculator
Enter clock-in and clock-out times for each day of the workweek. You get the total hours (as h:mm and decimal), the regular and overtime split, and gross pay. Shifts that end after midnight are handled.
How hours are totalled
Each day's hours = end time − start time − unpaid break. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the shift is treated as running past midnight. Decimal hours are minutes ÷ 60, so 7 hours 45 minutes is 7.75 hours.
Overtime rules used
- Federal (FLSA): unless an employee is exempt, hours over 40 in a workweek are paid at no less than 1.5 times the regular rate. The workweek is a fixed, recurring 7-day period and weeks can't be averaged. Source: U.S. DOL Wage and Hour Division, Fact Sheet #23.
- Alaska: 1.5× over 8 hours in a workday; 1.5× over 40 hours in a workweek. Doesn't apply to employers with fewer than four employees, approved flexible work hour plans (up to 10 hours a day), or other exempt jobs listed in the statute. Source: Alaska Stat. §23.10.060 (checked 2026-10-11).
- California: 1.5× over 8 hours in a workday; 1.5× over 40 hours in a workweek. 2x for hours over 12 in a workday, and for hours over 8 on the 7th consecutive workday in a workweek. 7th consecutive workday in a workweek: 1.5x for the first 8 hours, 2x after 8. Exempt employees and approved alternative workweek schedules follow different rules. Source: Cal. Labor Code §510 (checked 2026-10-11).
- Colorado: 1.5× over 12 hours in a workday; 1.5× over 40 hours in a workweek. Work over 12 consecutive hours is also overtime even if it spans two workdays; this calculator doesn't model that case. Daily and weekly overtime aren't added together: the larger total applies. Some jobs are exempt. Source: COMPS Order #40, 7 CCR 1103-1, Rule 4.1 (checked 2026-10-11).
- Nevada: 1.5× over 8 hours in a workday; 1.5× over 40 hours in a workweek. Daily overtime (over 8 hours) applies only to employees paid less than 1.5 times the Nevada minimum wage, and not to a mutually agreed 4 × 10-hour schedule. Higher-paid employees get weekly overtime only. Small businesses (under $250,000 a year in gross sales) and some jobs are exempt. Source: NRS 608.018 (checked 2026-10-11).
- The calculator counts hours already paid as daily overtime only once toward the weekly limit, and applies a 7th-day rule when all seven days have hours.
Only state rules we have checked against an official state source are offered. Other states may have their own overtime rules, and many jobs are exempt. Check your state labor department.
